Thinking of throwing a party? Maybe it's just a romantic dinner for two, or maybe it's a surprise party for mom or dad, a girl's night in or book club get together, or a dinner party with close friends? All these events are times we look forward to and cherish. Each and every party and get together is meant to be a special time shared with the people in our life that bring us joy. As an in-home caterer, being able to see the joy on friends and family's faces when they see each other or hearing the laughter between friends is what makes my job so great. But, you don't have to be a caterer to be the "host or hostess with the mostest".
Planning a party doesn't have to be a hardship. You don't want to be stuck in the kitchen preparing or cooking while your guests are having all the fun... I get it! That's why I always plan ahead! Planning ahead for any kind of party os the key to success!
So, follow these 3 simple tips to will ensure your party is a success and MOST important, that you get to enjoy it too!
1. Know Your Party's Audience
Who is on the guest list? This probably sounds silly, but it is the basis of every party that I cater. Knowing the people that are attending your party gives you insight into not only what to make, but how much to make as well. Do you have anyone that has an allergy or aversion? Do you you have big eaters coming? Or maybe, quite the opposite, guests that just pick? All the answers to these questions lead into the next important step.
2. Curate a Menu For Your Party
Once you know who is coming to the party, then you will be able to come up with ideas for food and ultimately a final menu. At this point, you can decide if you want to do a culinary theme, such as a spread of Mediterranean fare, and Italian feast or even a Mexican Fiesta. You can drop the theme altogether and just focus on some popular foods that you know your guests will enjoy. Think about what you can prep ahead! This is SUPER important. The more you prep ahead, the less you have to do on the day or night of you p arty.
3. Party Prep
The week before you party, take your curated menu and create a shopping list, and then a prep-ahead list. What can you do on which day? Break up the tasks over the week so it won't become overwhelming. Many spreads like my Tzatziki, Hummus, or Pear Compote can be made 2-3 days ahead. Even my delicious Caesar Dressing, can be 1-2 days ahead. The more you do before, the less time you will be hanging in the kitchen.
4. Have Fun!
